MY NEW PIANO or KEYBOARD! - Share Your Story! Somehow the amp filters out the last bit of "digital sound".ĭigital Pianos - Electronic Pianos - Synths &a. No matter which virtual instrument you get, turn off the amp and speaker cab simulation components and play it through a real Fender vacuum tube amp. I've also tried playing this through a real Fender amp. (?) All I can say is you can get a wide range of sounds with this thing. I've never dug into a Rhodes with a screwdriver and adjusted the hammer impact point so when I adjust the virtual impact point I assume it's realistic. If someone does not like this a constructive critique would be welcome. There is a bit of a learning curve so I imagine most people will use the presets first, or pick on e and make a minor adjustment. But unlike sampled instruments you can tweak this all you like and make some new sound. Some are just a description but some but some are names by famous tracks by Stevie Wonder or they have the doors "Riders on the Storm" where they just "nail" the sound on the album. One thing you get with the instrument is a large number of presets.

You can download demo software and see if you like it They have a cheap and an expensive version and they go on sale now and then. I think molding works better for Eps than for APs. Of the virtual Eps I like "Applied Acoustics" This s a modeler, like Pianoteq.

We are talking about Fender Rhodes, Rhodes Suitcase (73?) and Wurly A-200 kinds basically the vintage pre-transistor or transistor-transition era.įirst, I've never owned a "real" EP. On a side note: if I had unlimited cash, I'd go out and buy the real thing or a Clavia Nord keyboard product, it would settle the matter quite well LOL Thanks for any ideas, opinions, suggestions and interesting stories you might have to share I know its an important question in itself but my tastes in music are quite varied and I'd like to touch base with anything from the blues to light jazz to prog rock to ambient lounge. I know that this might be a difficult question to answer because apparently, history has it that many musicians and bands tweaked or modified their Rhodes back then (adjusting the pickup distances & angles, etc) to make a "signature sound" and so it would be difficult to pick a clear winner as far as emulations are concerned.Īnd, please don't just ask or say: "depends on the kind of sound you want to make or the music style you are playing". Would anyone care to share their receipes for an authentic EP sound ? They all sound good to me in one way or another and I've sometimes been able to come close to a sound reminescent of some of the 70's prog rock bands. I tried NI Scarbee Rhodes, Wurly A-200, LoungeLizard for amp/cabinet combo I tried the Rhodes emulation by IK Multimedia + the stock NI cabinets and effects, etc.

So, for those that actually played the EP in the 60's & 70's or currently have a more "modern" setup of some kind today and play EP's, what are your thoughts on this, what's the best (besides the real thing!) and what about the amp/cabinet combo - is it better to actually get a real Fender 65 Twin Reverb Combo or a Fender Twin Reverb ? What about good giutar cabinets + effects - would that do any good? It also seems that the "secret ingredient" to getting an authentic 60's/70's EP sound is an external amplifier/cabinet or good vst emulation of that.

We are talking about Fender Rhodes, Rhodes Suitcase (73?) and Wurly A-200 kinds basically the vintage pre-transistor or transistor-transition era.įrom my extensive reading on the net, and for a "plain Jane" windows system (not with ProTools, cause there are great specific EP's for that), it seems that Native Instrument's Scarbee Rhodes and A200 are favoured, closely followed by MrRay73 then LoungeLizard 3. To add or complete an existing thread (which virtual piano is best today?), I thought I'd ask the same question but for electric piano emulation since I just love the sound, that and the venerable Hammond B3-C3 organ.
